Throughout the revolution that’s been going on the last couple of weeks, I’ve been trying to figure out what I can do to help. I’m not able to attend protests because they’re normally during my work hours. It’s left me feeling guilty and like I’m not doing enough to support my black peers. But I’ve realized something else I can do to promote their voices from home, which is to show more diversity action and culture in my designs. When using skin color in a design, I normally just use the color of my own skin. But this does not accurately depict the diversity of our world. I want to be able to depict the voices of all of my consumers, not just the white ones. I also want to start collaborating with more black freelancers and designing activist art. This may not be something I’m able to do in my own business projects, because of the current clients I’m working with & my full time job, but it is something I can do in my free time with volunteer work. So I’m making a pledge to assist activists in the small way I can – through design.

All my love,

Hayley
